The memorial is situated in Memorial Park, Grafton, on the banks of the Clarence River. It consists of four brick pillars, connected by a flat arch. Inside the three bays this configuration creates, are memorial symbols for each of the three armed services. These are a short concrete pillar with a rising sun plaque attached for the Australian Army, a fouled anchor for the Royal Australian Navy and an aircraft propeller for the Royal Australian Air Force. Attached to each of the brick pillars are plaques for each of the armed services, with the fourth representing women's services, for example nursing and the land army. The plaques are to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and bear the words 'Australia Remembers 1945–1995.'
