The Wardell and District War Memorial was originally erected in 1925 by the Wardell Red Cross Branch. The Branch assisted with arranging and planting the Memorial Grove on the Recreation Grounds (where it remains today) in memory of the fallen from the district. This included the erection of the marble tablet present at the current memorial but in an original location approximately 50 metres to the north of the current memorial. A plaque marks the original location. The memorial was relocated in 2022 due to the establishment of the Wardell Temporary Village. A rededication took place in 2024.
