The war memorial consists of a plaque attached to the top of a decorative plinth made from polished pink marble. It is dedicated to the women who served in the Second World War and women who supported the war effort at home. Homefront roles included farewell and welcome home functions; preparation of comfort parcels; the land army; assistance to families of servicemen; and many fund raising projects. The memorial was created as part of the 'Australia Remembers' program, which was developed by the Australian Government to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in 1995. The Australia Remembers logo is attached to the front of the plinth, and the emblems of the three service branches, Royal Australian Air Force, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force are on the main plaque.
