A white marble memorial tablet, set within a carved timber frame. The tablet commemorates the death of Lance Corporal Henry John Wood during the First World War. It was dedicated by Bishop Ashton, the Anglican Bishop of Grafton, on Thursday, 2 August 1923 at St Paul's Anglican Church in Eungai Creek. The tablet is now located in the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum in Bowraville, and access is available by appointment/tour of the museum. Wood was born at Raleigh in NSW. As a single labourer of Eungai, aged 19 years, he enlisted in the 13th Battalion. The unit departed from Sydney on board HMAT A50 Aeneason on 20 December 1915. As a Lance Corporal in the 45th Battalion, he was killed in action on 14 January 1917, aged 20 years. He was buried in the Guard's Cemetery at Lesboeufs in France. His name is recorded on the Macksville Ex-Services Club War Memorial, Macksville Church of England and Eungai Public School Honour Roll. A detailed report on his war service has been recorded in the publication Nambucca Anzacs by Trevor G. Lynch (Longueville Media, 2013).
