This illustrated document is a personalised roll of honour dedicated to Private Ernest Bake, who was also a Brother in the Advance Bonville Branch No. 9278 of the Grand United Order of Oddfellows. It was produced to recognise his services in the First World War. The document is highly decorated, featuring coloured flags, a laurel wreath and symbols of the Order including burning urns and the eye of God. It is an example of a standard memorial issued to many branches of the Order, which then had the dedication details changed to meet their appropriate need. This memorial was presented at Bonville on 24 October 1919. Ernest Bake enlisted as a single farmer, aged 30 years, on 3 January 1918 as a Private in the 13th Battalion, 26th Reinforcement. His unit sailed from Sydney on board 'HMAT A54' on 22 March 1918. As a member of the 13th Battalion, he returned to Australia on 1 July 1918.
