The Newcastle Civic Park War Memorial is tapered granite column, positioned on a square sandstone plinth. The memorial features inscriptions and dedications to those who have served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The emblems of the Royal Australian Air Force, Australian Women's Services, Royal Australian Navy, and the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces are also attached to the memorial. Next to the memorial is an eternal flame. The memorial is located on the northern side of Newcastle Civic Park, opposite the City Hall. It was first built in 1954 and rededicated on 11 November 2003. Additional plaques were added in 2006.
