St Joseph's Catholic Church in Cessnock is a large brick building, dominated by a tall square tower. The tower has narrow, rectangular, shuttered windows and is surmounted by a metal cross. A red-granite tablet is set into the lower part of its eastern wall, and is inscribed with the dedication. The church was opened on 24 October 1954, with the completed tower in place. Inside the building is the St Joseph's Catholic Church First and Second World Wars Memorial Foyer.
