The memorial consists of two bronze plaques, mounted on a concrete pillar. The top plaque contains an illustration of a returning soldier being welcomed by his family. In the background there are soldiers in a conflict and a simple Latin cross. The emblems of the RSL and the Australian Imperial Force are in the top left and right corners respectively. The bottom plaque is inscribed with a detailed script titled 'Coming Home'. It speaks of the horrors of war, the death, suffering and destruction and the adjustments needed at home. It also refers to the significance of the nearby Gloucester Memorial Clock Tower and the importance of remembrance and gratitude held by the Gloucester community towards men and women who served. The memorial was dedicated in 2015, during the centenary of the First World War. It was designed by the daughter of a Gloucester RSL sub-Branch member and was made by the Uralla New England Foundry, who have designed and made numerous commemorative plaques. The memorial is located in Gloucester Memorial Park, where Anzac Day and other commemorative services are held.
