This war memorial is a black Terrazzo tablet, inlaid with a piece of white marble in the shape of a shield. It is 600mm high by 500mm wide. It was made by prominent stonemason M.W. Hardy of Narribri. The tablet was created in memory of Reverend John Wilkinson, who is buried in Rutherford Cemetery. He had enlisted to serve in the First World War via the 'Wallabies' march, but was killed in an accident at the Maitland Miltary Camp on 3 February 1916. His headstone (images 2 and 3 above) states he died during a thunderstorm. The memorial was located at the Narrabri Methodist Church until 1972, when the church was destroyed by fire. It has been relocated to storage at the rear of the Narrabri Uniting Church.
