The Abermain Public School First World War Honor Roll is a stately timber board, containing the names of 52 ex-pupils who served in the war. They are neatly printed in gold and arranged in alphabetical order by surname. The board was unveiled at the school on 31 March 1917. The well-attended ceremony was reported in detail in The Maitland Daily Mercury on 5 April. The article included the following physical description of the roll: The roll ... is of solid oak, polished, designed and executed by Messrs. Fly Bros., of West Maitland. The style is old Roman overall 7ft. by 4ft., and supported by massive columns with ornate Corinthian caps. Three panels are provided for the names, there being space for 300. Under the words "Abermain Public School," surmounting the panels, are the crossed emblems, the Union Jack, and the Australian flag, artistically painted in colours. Note: the end year of the war is not printed on the roll.
