This garden of remembrance is located in the grounds of Lismore Memorial Baths. The area is marked by two identical stone tablets, set into the lawn. They are decorated with the emblem of Legacy Australia, which consists of the eternal flame, backed by a ribbon banner, and surrounded by a laurel wreath. The flame is symbolic of sacrifice and everlasting remembrance and the wreath is a traditional symbol of honour. Legacy is an Australian non-profit organisation, which was formed by ex-servicemen in 1923. It provides support to families of veterans who have lost their lives during conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The Lismore Legacy Contact Group was launched on Monday, 20 May 1946, at a dinner at the Commercial Hotel in Lismore. In attendance were representatives "from all Lismore churches, patriotic and civic organisations" (Northern Star, 17 May 1946).
