The war memorial is an obelisk standing in the centre of a memorial garden. The obelisk is inscribed with the names of all men from the Merriwa District who served in the Great War. On the front face are the names of all those who fell. To the left and right of the obelisk are small plinths carrying inscribed brass plaques commemorating all those from the district who died in the service of their country during the First and Second World Wars. A Second World War anti-aircraft gun is also located nearby. The memorial was officially dedicated on 27 October 1923 by Sir Charles Rosenthal.
