This war memorial is a bushrock, with a bronze plaque attached to its front face. A flagpole is also positioned nearby. The memorial is dedicated to the personnel stationed at Tamworth Airfield during the Second World War. The plaque is illustrated with the emblems of the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) and the R.A.A.F. Association, and a Tiger Moth aircraft. An elementary flying training school was established at Taminda in West Tamworth around August 1940, the sixth such school set up under the "Empire air programme" (Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate, 21 August 1940).
