The original memorial was a drinking fountain and a lamp stand. In 2004, a semi-circular wall to the rear of the existing monument was officially opened. The wall is made of highly polished black stone. The names of the soldiers from the area who served in the Boer War are engraved on panels attached to the wall. Mr John Price MLA made a speech in NSW Parliament on 4 June 2004 in connection to the opening. The memorial is located south of the Maitland Aquatic Centre.
