In 2014, the Sunset Strip Progress Association Inc. commenced planning and fundraising to establish a dedicated community war memorial for the village of Sunset Strip, on Lake Menindee via Broken Hill in NSW. Previously, Anzac Day had been acknowledged with a flag raising ceremony without a dedicated memorial site. The dedication of stage one, in January 2015, was undertaken by John Bacich the President of the Broken Hill RSL and a village shack owner. Stage two was completed for Anzac Day 2016, and marked the first official ceremony at the memorial. Mr. Keith Harris, President of the Sunset Strip Progress Association Inc. stated "it is a very appropriate day as it marked the centenary of the Western Front campaign when Broken Hill contributed their young men to World War One." The memorial site is established at the prominent location of the Sunset Strip Community Centre Precinct, overlooking Lake Menindee. The site includes a granite stone with a plaque and a wall with an artwork. A single flapole for the Australian flag, landscaping and seating complete the area. Future development options include the planting of a Lone Pine tree, brick surrounding wall, gate entrance and a plaque with names of original shack holders who served in theatres of war.
