This illuminated address expresses appreciation to the Deer Vale Lady War Workers, from those from the area who served in the First World War. Lady War Workers Groups were created during the First World War. They raised funds for serving soldiers and organised welcome home functions. In the case of the Deer Vale group, it was the local branch of the Red Cross. The Deer Vale soldiers organised a 'complimentary social' to say thank you and present the address to them, which was ornately illustrated by creator John Sands. It features Empire flags at the top and wattle blossoms and the Red Cross emblem at the bottom. The Don Dorrigo Gazette, 3 November 1920, described the function held in the Deer Vale Hall on Wednesday, 27 October. Deer Vale is a small community located west of Dorrigo, NSW. The memorial is located at the Don Dorrigo and Guy Fawkes Historical Society Museum. A similar memorial is listed on the NSW War Memorials Register as the Bangalow and District Lady War Workers Great War Illuminated Address.
