This memorial is a First World War German 77 mm Krupp Field Gun. It is located outside the Murrurundi Historical Society Museum in Murrunrundi. The gun has been restored and is mounted on two concrete pads within a gravel pit. It has a label, created by the Historical Society, located at the rear of the gun which provides a brief description of the gun, when it was captured and how it came to be in Murrunrundi. This gun was captured at Clery Copse, France by members of the 33rd Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on 31 August 1918. The 33rd Battalion were established and trained at the Armidale Showground before serving overseas. It is for this reason, along with the fact that one of the leading men involved in capturing the battery (Lieutenant E. A. Turnbull) was a station hand from Armidale, that this site was chosen to display this particular war trophy.
