The memorial is a row of Cypress pines, planted in the grounds of the former Tenterden Public School. A concrete pillar is located on the eastern side of the trees. The metal plaque previously attached to the pillar has been removed for safe keeping. The trees and plaque were established by the Tenterden Parents and Citizen's Association (P and C) in 1954, in honour of the 39 men and women from the small district who had served in the Second World War. The trees were cared for by the children of the school. The plaque was unveiled at the school on 3 December 1954 by Mr W.D. Cameron, a returned First World War soldier and resident of the Tenterden district. On 9 December, The Guyra Argus described the ceremony in detail. A large crowd had attended and Mr Jack Mayled, President of the P and C, "congratulated the school children on the care they had taken of the trees, which were now well established." The Tenterden Public School opened in December 1884 and closed in December 1975.
