South and West Tamworth War Memorial Swimming Pool

The entrance builidng to the South and West Tamworth War Memorial Swimming Pool is of brick construction, with a tiled façade and distinctive windows on each side of the front gates. A large depiction of the Tamworth crest is located on the wall between the gates above the inscription. The crest features a merino ram's head, a mural crown representing a civic community, a maltese cross, wheat representing the Australian Agricultural Company, the gold fleur de lys from the old seal and new arms of Tamworth, England as well as two Australian magpies.  A committee was formed in July 1962 and the pool was officially opened by the Hon. W. Davis Hughes, M.L.A., Minister for Public Works on 21 September 1968. At the function, he revealed the government planned to construct sixty pools throughout the state. During the opening service, the pool was dedicated as a war memorial by Tamworth's religious fraternity.  The pool cost $200,000. The Department of Public Works contributed $20,000. Council contributed $20,000 and a loan of $100,000 was obtained.
