This metal flagpole is dedicated to Sergeant Norman William Martin, who served in the Second World War. Attached to base of the pole is a bronze plaque bearing the inscription. Martin was born in Manilla, NSW, on 16 September 1919. He was a resident of the town when he enlisted for service at Paddington in Sydney. As a Sergeant, he served in the Papuan Infantry Battalion and was discharged on 15 May 1946. On his return to Manilla, he was a 'Keeper of the Flags' for ceremonies in Manilla Memorial Park, now known as Rotary Park. He died on 17 March 1996. The memorial was erected in the park, on the southern side of the rotunda. Various commemorative services are held in the park throughout the year.
