This memorial commemorates the Battle of the Coral Sea. It consists of two sloping walls facing a central pillar. The memorial overlooks the waterfront and contains details of the Battle of the Coral Sea etched on either side and around the central pillar. Two flagpoles situated on the waterfront fly both the Australian and US Flags. Additional Information Townsville was the largest Allied operational base in the South West Pacific during World War II and played an important support role in the Battle of the Coral Sea.
