A rare and significant barrel transport vehicle (Rohrhinterwagen) for a 10.4cm Skoda M1915 field gun. Mounted on a concrete and stone plinth, it resides at the entrance to the Brisbane Grammar SchoolGreat Hall, with bronze plaque mounted below the front. A second small metal plaque low on the northern side states that the gun was returned to its present site in 1996 after refurbishment by members of the South Queensland Logistics Group Additional Information Although 'field gun' like in appearance, the original field gun was too heavy for a standard 6 horse team to pull over any distance. The barrel was detached and carried on its own vehicle. A formation that can be seen in the images on this website. There is also no recoil or recuperator assembly under the barrel and no elevation/traverse gear that would be expected on a gun. The transport vehicle at Brisbane Grammar is a unique piece since it's the only surviving Rohrhinterwagen with a Skoda barrel in the world. There is another one at the Brussels Army Museum (Musee Royale de l' Armee), but that one carries a 15cm howitzer barrel. The barrel transport vehicles for the two guns were virtually identical.
