The monument is a replica of that built by Australian Divisional Engineers in the Tobruk Cemetery, Libya, during the Second World War seige, that lasted from the 10th April to December 1941. The memorial lists more than 100 names of local men who served at Tobruk during the 1941. Additional Information Refer to additional images for extensive information. Designed and implemented by the Mackay Regional Council and the Mackay Rats of Tobruk Association members. Unveiled in March 2001 by the then Governor of Queensland, Major-General Peter Arnison. There are similar memorials at Bundaberg and Rockhampton.
