The memorial comprises a life-sized statue of an Australian Infantry soldier standing with head bowed and arms reversed on an ornate sandstone pedestal. The pedestal is capped by a gabled cornice with a moulded wreath in the front gable. On all faces of the pedestal are marble plates. The east side plate bears a matching inscription for WW2 and also the names of the 8 local men who fell in that conflict. The monument rests on a rock-faced granite base and is surrounded by its original concrete kern and iron stake fence, with a gate at the south east corner. The memorial reserve is in turn enclosed by a timber fence.
