The Queensland War Memorial Register acknowledges the recent major damage that occurred to this significant memorial. The obelisk has an Australian Army rising sun carved at its base and the word Woodend. The memorial seems to have been erected or repaired in several sections - the obelisk section at the top is different from the main body of the memorial, and the white stepped base is different again. The name plaques are of a modern design not in keeping with the rest of the memorial. A flagpole stands to the right of the memorial. The memorial is positioned on a paved section with landscaped ardens behind. Additional Information The memorial was constructed under the auspices of the Woodend Progress Assocation who had originally aimed for an honour board, but with the success of their fund raising were able to arrange the stone memorial. The memorial said to be of Murphy's Creek sandstone and was the work of mason, W E Parsons. It was unveiled on 29 March 1919 by the Mayoress, Mrs E.J.L. Easton.
