This war memorial consists of a masonry block plinth with a short obelisk on top. The blocks have been painted white. Attached to the front face of the obelisk is a bronze plaque, which explains the circumstances of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) crash on 22 May 1944 at Knockrow. The plane was flying from Brisbane to Evans Head Air Base. The servicemen were born in Queensland and came from the RAAF airbase training establishment. The monument was created and maintained by the RAAF Association, Ballina Branch. Many Australian newspapers published brief details of the crash and listed the names of the servicemen including their service details.
