The Toomelah War Memorial is located at the Toomelah Public School in Toomelah, New South Wales. The land is managed by the Toomelah Local Aboriginal Land Council who have given permission for this war memorial to be placed on the New South Wales War Memorial Register. The memorial consists of two metal plaques attached to a concrete wall with a purple 'Lest We Forget' banner located beneath it. There are four additional plaques sitting on a concrete platform below. The smaller plaque on the wall is in memory of two servicemen, John Knox and George Cubby, who died as Prisoners of War in Singapore and Thailand during the Second World War. The larger plaque beneath it recognises the sacrifices and services of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have served in the Australian Defence Force since 1901. At the top of the plaque is the Rising Sun emblem of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). The plaque is divided into six seperate sections designed to recognise various veterans: First World War Veterans; Second World War Veterans; Second World War Signalmen; Vietnam War Veterans; a RAAF Second World War Pilot and a National Serviceman. Each name also includes the area the serviceman came from. The four smaller plaques are dedicated to an individual servicemen. Two are First World War servicemen (Alfred Dalton and Charles Bird) and two are Second World War servicemen (Reuben Bartman and Bertram Cubby). These plaques were produced by the Goomeroi People in appreciation of the time served in the Armed Forces by these veterans and were dedicated on 20 February 2009.
