The ANZAC Day in Schools’ Program was initiated in 2000 by sub-Branch stalwarts Peter Poulton AM, Roy Chapman and Darryl Walker. Its aim is to complement other ANZAC Day commemorative activities by providing an opportunity for local primary and secondary school students to participate in services that encourage a greater understanding of the ‘ANZAC legend’ plus the service and sacrifice of Australian men and women in conflicts and peacetime since the Boer War. The program includes two key elements: a combined schools’ ANZAC assembly involving representatives of schools in the sub-Branch’s geographic ‘catchment area’; and the attendance of sub-Branch volunteers at individual schools’ ANZAC assemblies.
