The ANZAC Day Gallipoli Cup Race Day is a solemn and uniquely Australian event held annually at Kembla Grange Racecourse, hosted by the City of Wollongong RSL sub-Branch in partnership with the Illawarra Turf Club. Held on the Saturday before ANZAC Day, the day begins with a wreath-laying service at 11:30 am on the trackside lawn, paying tribute to all those who have served, particularly those who fought in the Gallipoli campaign. This ceremony is followed by a special program of commemorative races, including the Peter Poulton AM Memorial Plate and the City of Wollongong RSL sub-Branch Gallipoli Cup. Attendance is by invitation only, with a limited number of seats available for sub-Branch members and invited guests. Following the ceremony, attendees will be hosted in the Main Grandstand Dining Room, where lunch and drinks will be provided. Members wishing to attend are encouraged to contact the sub-Branch directly to express their interest, as spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-in basis. This event remains a proud annual tradition—bringing together remembrance, community, and the racing culture so deeply embedded in Australian history. It is both a tribute to the past and a celebration of the bonds we continue to honour through service and connection.
